Gardening is A Mugs Game!

by Peter Sanders published on 16 Feb 2017

At Express Mugs we are always looking for unique and novel ideas of ways we can use our mugs. One of our favourite ideas is using our spare mugs to create our own mug garden. Whether you have green thumbs or not, creating your mug garden is fun, easy and a great way to spend time with your family or a good way to forget the stresses of everyday life.

The easiest of gardens to create in your mugs are herb gardens. Herbs smell wonderful, look fantastic and add flavour to your home cooked meals and best of all, Herbs are versatile plants that are easy to care for.

To start your Mug Garden, all you need is:

1. Mugs

2. Small pebbles or gravel.

3. Potting Soil

4. Herb Plants or seeds (We recommend coriander, basil, mint, rosemary, thyme and parsley)

First of all, add some pebbles to the bottom of each mug. This is necessary for drainage; it prevents the plant's roots sitting in excess water which is important to maintain a healthy plant.

If using plants place your plants in the mugs and fill around the plant with potting soil. If you are using seeds fill the mug half full with soil, then place your seeds in and then fill the rest of the mug with soil. Be careful not to overfill the mug with soil as this will make it difficult to water the plants.

Once you have finished planting, water your plants or seeds and place on a sunny windowsill and water daily. When you want to use your herbs, just cut what you need off the plant, and the plant will regrow.

At Express Mugs we have a wide range of designs that would be the perfect mugs to create herb gardens or why not create a herb garden as the perfect gift for friends and family.
